[O] Ashes In The Wind

Cyneric leaned over the railings surrounding the roof.

A lit cigarette dangled from his long, slim fingers and a cloud of thick smoke streamed steadily from between his parted, scarred lips.

His dull blue eyes stared hard at the dark forest in front of him.

Cy flicked the butt of his cigarette with his thumb, the ash fluttering in the slight breeze.

His icy eyes slid shut as he lifted the cigarette to his lips and inhaled deeply again.

For the last few days Mialina hadn't stepped foot onto the roof since Jason had given her a tour. The sight had been nice for the short amount she had spent up there. So when she had the time for it, the young vampire found herself ascending the steps back onto the roof. She didn't go empty handed, and held a lukewarm blood pack in her hands.

Deciding to be lazy when it came to feeding, she had somehow impaled a straw into the bag. Sucking on it lightly, she hoisted up her skirts to the last step before opening the door. Expecting the roof to be empty, she shoved it open and enjoyed the loud banging it caused.

Then the noise seemed excessive once she saw the male at the far end of the room. Straw trapped between her red tinted lips, she took the time to carefully close the door behind her now that she had company. The scent of the cigarette made her small nose scrunch up in distaste, but she did not say anything. Her mouth was obviously occupied with said straw.

The man stayed still when the door crashed open.

His body didn't even tense. He'd heard the footsteps gradually getting louder; the soft breathing of the girl; even the gulps she took of the blood.

He inhaled his cigarette again, lips caressing the butt of it gently before pursing slightly as he exhaled.

Cy didn't acknowledge the girls presence.

He didn't care.

For the first few minutes she was able to ignore his presence. She walked a bit aways to a section of the railling she could claim on her own. She had chose a good time, the breeze had died down and the night was bright and clear. Her eyes searched out the shore of the beach and she immediately perked up at the sight of it. She squeezed the bag, forcing more blood into her mouth.

The only thing stopping the experience from being perfect was the smell that kept wafting into her nostrils. Shoulders tensing in agitation, she whipped around, ringlets bouncing as her eyes narrowed on the man.

"Are you almost done?" she asked, a scowl on her rounded face. Surely it doesn't take that long to enhale toxins into your body and leave!

Cy blinked slowly at the angry outburst, his gaze turning over his shoulder to her.

His eyes were blank, dull and not really looking directly at her. He didn't care enough about her presence to make eye contact with her.

"I could ask you the same," was his simple quiet response.

Just like Mialina, Cyneric was bothered by the scent that wafted around the small child. It had an unpleasant scent to it; not the blood type that he drank.

Cy inhaled his cigarette again, flicking the ash from it as he exhaled again.

Mialina paused, glancing down at her blood pack. Fine, he wanted to play that way. Chomping down on the straw in determination, she squeezed on the bag and swallowed down the last drops. Sucking hard, she ignored the obnoxious sounds the bag made with the inhalation of air. But quickly the bag was empty. Licking her lips she crushed the bag in her hands.

"There. Your turn." Mialina stared up at him, bright green eyes narrowing expectantly.

Cy's lips quirked upwards slightly.

He didn't move to put out his cigarette. No, he just continued to smoke, turning his attention back to the breathtaking view in front of him.

The world wasn't an-eye-for-an-eye. If she thought that because she did something, he had to do something, then she was severely mistaken.

Eyebrow twitching in irritation, Mialina never expected someone to be so obviously inconsiderate. It made the idea of being alone all the more sweeter.

But she wasn't alone, and she couldn't enjoy her beach view with that heavy sickening smell of smoke. She frowned, her cheeks puffing out as she held in her complaints since words would do little in her situation.

Instead, she fisted the plastic bag in her hand, making sure it was nice and compact before chunking it at him, aiming to knock that damned cigarette right out of his hand.

The man didn't even glance back at her again.

From what he had seen, he already had a disliking of the girl. She held herself in the snooty manner that many people from his clan had done.

When she tossed the bag at him, he stepped aside in a surprisingly graceful movement.

The bag sailed over his shoulder and the railing, not even touching him.

He bought the cigarette to his lips again.

Oh! Oops. Distracted she walked quickly over near him and leaned forward to look over the railling. She just littered, didn't she? She stared at the small speck of plastic on the grass. Did she really have to go down and get it? Bright eyes quickly glanced at her enemy before back at the bag. Yes, she did. Her glare was intense, but she wasn't the type to start an outrage. Her rage only bubbled in her stomach and she was tempted to retaliate. But was that the best option? People were unpredictable and she didn't trust him to not suddenly turn on her.

Feeling like her options were running out, she was saved by a nice breeze that picked up. The chill was worth the cleansing of the air. Gracefully the smoke was whipped away and she could breathe. Satisfied, she turned away and went back to the side of the roof where she could best see the beach.

Cy didn't think it would do anything for him to turn on the girl.

She wasn't anything to him; not a friend. Not even an annoyance. She was just there. Something that had buzzed around him.

He inhaled the final drag of his cigarette before stubbing it out on the railing.

He tossed the butt over the edge of the roof.

This vampire was the first to get on her bad side. Everyone else was at least a little bit thoughtful. She didn't like him, not one bit. Eyes narrowing as she eyed her target, she stiffly walked closer to him. "Your name." She demanded, glaring up at him. Mialina realized it was in her best interest to learn about everyone that lived in this mansion. Her enemies, and her allies. She must know these things to survive.

The man didn't care for pleasantries.

Cy's eyes flickered down to the girl as she approached him.

"Yours?" he asked in return, not bothering to give his name. He didnt care to give his name.

He reached into the pocket of jacket for another cigarette and lit it up.

Mialina's face scrunched up in distaste. Oh, now he was doing it on purpose! The breeze was helpful if she hadn't walked right into the middle of it. Holding in her breath she adjusted her position so she was upwind and safe from the smoke and the intensity of the smell. But still, rude. "Mialina." She stiffly responded, glaring at the disgusting thing in his hand. "Sometimes Missy."

Alright, she had given him her name. Now it was his turn. She stared up at him, waiting to hear it. But it didn't seem like it was coming. At least, not to her liking. Demanding hadn't seemed to work, it seems. Her brows furrowed at the difficulty of changing methods. "May I know yours?" Such pleasantries from her mouth sounded so foreign but she pushed and persevered.

Mialina.

Even her name sounded like a name that a pretentious nobleman would call his beloved little daughter.

"No," he murmured, icy eyes turning back to the forest.

He didn't want to give his name.

He inhaled his cigarette again.

Mialina blinked, not expecting it. Demanding didn't work, asking nicely didn't work. What worked for him? Threats? But she dared not make empty ones, and something in her gut warned her about about going up against this...whatever he was. She assumed he was a vampire, but she couldn't be sure. He could be any of the strange creatures that resided in this home.

"Why?" she asked, just not sure what to think of him. More questions bubbled up, but she forced herself to take one at a time. "Are you a vampire?"

Well, two...at a time.

Cy shrugged.

He didn't have a firm reason for not wanting to share his name. He just didn't feel like it.

It wasn't anything personal. Really.

"Yes."

A thick cloud of smoke crept from the man's lips as he exhaled.

Mialina frowned, perplexed. Well, he didn't seem to have any problems answering her other questions. Did he hate his name? Trying not to make a face again, she took another step back to avoid the thicker cloud. But it was starting to make her feel queasy. "Then I may call you anything I so choose?" she asked, already thinking through names to call him. She looked him over again, considering a nickname to go with his physical attributes.

"No."

He'd much prefer that she leave him alone and not even think of talking to him again.

It'd be preferable to this.

Cy inhaled a particularly deep lungful of smoke and exhaled it slowly.

Ah. Mialina couldn't play dumb. He didn't want her to call him anything. He didn't want her to call him at all. Why did he have such an attitude? She wasn't the type to not dislike alone time, but once in a while she would be fine with other people to interact with. Just for some reason she was set on this unknown fellow.

"Then shall I call you No?" It was his prefered response, after all.

Cy didn't dignify that with a response.

He didn't want her to call him anything; say anything or do anything.

Cy wanted to be left alone.

Mialina was slowly starting to annoy him.

Nothing worked, it seems. She couldn't demand, plea, or bug him to respond. In fact, the most she tried the more he seemed to recoil. Boring. For some reason she felt insulted. Never had she been so...snuffed. She could take a hint, although she didn't like it. But it wasn't in her to just completely give up. What else was there to do?

More questions came to her mind. Why are you such a drag?. But she forced herself into silence, and turned away. Hands behind her back she counted two steps before going to the railling and staring out into the night. She had given him her silence, but she would enforce her presence. The forest was what she was stuck with to look at in order to keep her presence known.

But she could be silent. Dolls were known for silence.

Cy went on with life like the girl wasn't just stood staring at him.

He didn't care enough to make the effort to acknowledge her existence. He just didn't care about her at all.

He smoked contentedly, staring out at the forest as if he hadn't been interrupted at all.

There was something really off about this man. She couldn't tell if he was normal or an iddity. He was the most normal she had come across. But personality wise he was now the oddest. She couldn't tell if he was unpredictable or if he was really as bland as he seemed. If anything, she just didn't trust him. She leaned onto the railing, looking out into the forest and constantly glancing his way.
